PRECISION TEE-SQUARE

Router Woodworking

A pair of Squares. Fun to use, accurate, and handy. Rests on the work, obviating a third hand.

Measure directly to the blade for precise knife lines. >3" of blade on your side of the work for the knife to run off.

Clamp down for a temporary stop or set up a X-templet square to the reference edge.

Blades are indexed and held fast with cap screws. The 1/4" x 6-1/4" reference shoulder is straight to .001".

My Tee-square is a multipurpose precision instrument calibrated to 90 degrees inside and out.
Squareness accuracy is .0015" (minimum) across the (9") edge of the blade and .0015" on either side of the body where the squareness of work is checked. This level of precision is about where the jointers, precision saws, and our eyeballs leave off. Your machines will be hard pressed to cut beyond the readability of the tool.

I make the square; no part of it is farmed out. The body of the square is seasoned, straight grained Jatoba. Its critical surfaces and edges are hand sanded on a granite surface plate before and after assembly. The 2 outside reference edges, however, remain as machined. The product is urethane finished and waxed. The instrument is checked on assembly and just prior to shipping.

The aluminum blade is ~.25" thick x 1.0" x 9.0" long and replaceable or re-trueable. The body is ~ 3.25" x 7.25" long x .87" thick & stepped to .62". Its 6.25" x .25" reference shoulder provides substantial intimacy with the reference edge of the work. The square is balanced to rest on the edge of 5/8" thick stock without attendance. The short leg of the blade projects 2" from the body, the long leg 3.75", and the outside edge of the blade enjoys 5.62" of the work face. You can knife, pencil or paint a 5-5/8" stripe across the face of the material the square rests on.

The tool is supplied with a magnet to clamp your cutlist to the body. A pencil trough has been milled into its face; it (the trough) also provides a little more finger grip when checking squareness. Hang the tool through the hole in the blade. Use the booger for layout, scribing, rough marking, fine knife lines, checking for squareness, setting up templets, as a temporary stop, or a gift to the wife to inspire her to woodwork with you.
